Alpine blonde is the ice-cold hair colour taking off for winter

We love it when our hair reflects our mood. And for those leaning into the winter theme, the current coldsnap is giving us ice queen vibes. Hence, Alpine blonde is trending for an ice cold hair colour that feels as glacial as the slopes we’d love to slide down.

Granted, the frozen undertone is not exactly new. Icy blondes have been everywhere this year, with milky blonde, Marilyn blonde and Targaryen blonde all calling for a statement cool-toned colour that’s pushed to the extreme. But as it becomes colder, the trending hair colour temperature is dropping with it, meaning the shade is coming even more into its own.

As for how to translate the latest rendition of blonde, “alpine blonde is a totally cool-toned shade of blonde that suits all skin tones, hairstyles, and lengths,” explains celebrity hairstylist, and Bblonde brand educator, Jason Collier. “Think Scandi vibes. It’s chic, minimalistic and stands out even against the white of the slopes,” he adds.

But while it’s undeniably a statement, it’s a commitment, too, especially if you’re hair’s not naturally light. “It can take a bit of work if you have dark hair,” admits Jason. “When it comes to getting your hair this blonde it’s not a one job process. Sometimes this can take multiple sessions, so I would advise that you take extra care for your hair during and after these sessions,” he says. “To get the look, you’ll need an all-over blonde bleach, completed over a few sessions,” he continues.

To ensure it stays healthy, “the key is to take your time and not bleach it too quickly,” Jason says. “Otherwise you can over process the hair.” We’d always recommend going to the pros who can assess and mitigate any damage as they’ve worked for years to get the balance between hair health and achievable colour just right.

But, if you’re intent on doing it yourself, Jason recommends the Jerome Russell Bblonde Ultra Blonding Kit. “It’s formulated with Jplex technology and avocado oil,” he says to protect and strengthen hair fibres during the bleaching process, plus it lightens the hair by up to nine shades. Either way, home care in between sessions is even more important. Incorporate conditioning shampoos, conditioners, masks and treatments into your home haircare routine to rebuild strength and shine.

Another essential?  ”I would be tempted to say that a toner is the most important step in achieving this look,” says Jason. They can improve your shade condition, whilst neutralising yellow and brassy tones he explains.
