PS5 Modder Takes Down Demon’s Souls’ Tower Knight Using DK Bongos

A content creator armed with a pair of Donkey Kong bongo controllers got as far as the Tower Knight boss in Bluepoint Games’ remake of the notoriously challenging Demon’s Souls - and won. The beautifully detailed game released as a launch title for the PlayStation 5 and is arguably the console’s most stunning offering so far. The original game made by FromSoftware came out for the PlayStation 3 and kicked off not only a successful franchise but also a kind of genre.

Though Bluepoint has left the title largely untouched, the developers still managed to slip in a few new things for fans to enjoy in this year’s remake. One of the most intriguing of these changes was a mysterious, locked door. The door, found behind an illusory wall just past the Tower Knight boss area, was not present in the original and so long-time fans of the series had no idea how to open it or what secrets it could be holding. Luckily, streamer Distortion2 did not take long to puzzle out the solution.

While many players find it difficult enough to make it through the deadly game with a normal controller, Super Louis 64 decided to up the stakes by plugging in his DK bongos and recording the results. However, instead of failing miserably, the streamer was surprisingly successful. As he noted in a video edited from the initial live stream, just getting the GameCube-area peripherals to work seems to have been the first obstacle. Demon’s Souls has approximately twenty different buttons which somehow needed to be mapped onto the extremely limited drums. This hurdle was overcome by simply eliminating things like the camera – because what self-respecting Demon’s Souls player needs to see the boss, right? Even with these limitations, the footage clearly shows the streamer’s impressive bongo skills as he defeats one of the game’s first bosses.

The Demon’s Souls remake has garnered a fair amount of praise for the creators at Bluepoint prompting rumors of what the studio will work on next. One leaker has claimed that this next project might be a Metal Gear Solid remake, a report that many would love to see confirmed. This includes the original voice for Solid Snake, David Hayter. The voice actor responded to the rumors of a remake on Twitter, asking fans to petition the studio for his return if the game were ever to be remade.

It is fascinating to watch what various content creators can do when they get ahold of Demon’s Souls. It is not an easy game even when the player has every advantage, so for someone to beat one of its bosses with an old set of drums is extremely impressive.
