Prada made industry-breaking news last February with the announcement that Miuccia Prada would share “creative input and decision making” with Raf Simons. We’re finally seeing the fruits of their collaborative efforts, a highlight of an otherwise quiet season.
The pair debuted Prada’s spring-summer 2021 collection during Milan Fashion Week today, bearing touches from both designers’ anthologies. From Prada we saw her penchant for ’70s geometric prints, technical suiting, and duchesse satin, and from Simmons were Swiss cheese cutouts and the very same coat-grasp we saw at his final Jil Sander show from 2012. But the magic presented itself in the collection’s communal details: both designers are familiar with feminine, full-length midi skirts, punchy statement stilettos, and a shared interest in a comical touch, as shown with the oversized chest plate logos. Somehow, their joint production marry together seamlessly.
Described as a creative conversation in the brand’s press release, Prada and Simmons’ dialogue is just beginning. We can’t wait to hear what they have to say next.
