Charmed (2018) Season 2 Episode 2 Review: Things to Do in Seattle When You’re Dead

It’s not easy to start over when you’re forced to leave everything you know behind.

On Charmed (2018) Season 2 Episode 2, the Vera sisters had a tough time trying to adjust to their new lives in Seattle.

Originally, I thought the show had taken a complete turn in direction, separating it from both the last season and the OG Charmed.

However, after watching Episode 2, I remembered that the OG Charmed ones were also forced to fake their own deaths and take on new identities to avoid being discovered by demons.

As much as I try not to compare the remake to the OG series, I still have a hard time not thinking about the original Charmed sisters as I watch each episode.

I wasn’t surprised that Maggie seemed to have the most difficult time letting go of her old life this episode.

Of the three, it seemed she was the only one who had an active social life back home.

The news of Maggie and Mel’s father’s sudden death caught me off guard.

It was heartbreaking to learn about how their father (who we know is not Maggie’s biological father) treated them so coldly as children.

Girl? I’m 20 years old dude. I am not a girl.

Maggie

Understanding Maggie’s complex relationship with her father helped me to understand her character better.

Last season, I struggled to understand Maggie’s obsession with pledging her sorority.

Her sorority sisters were so mean, and she ditched her real sisters on more than one important occasion for her sorority.

Now, I think Maggie may have just been searching for the love and acceptance she never got from her father as a child.

With her demon ex-boyfriend Parker now out of the picture, I’m still hoping that Maggie and her new hot friend Jordan end up together.

It seems Jordan is not afraid of a strong woman. I loved the way he let Maggie express herself, and even called her formidable at the end of the episode.

I’m a grown ass woman, okay? I am formidable. And if I make a decision about how to live my life, people need to respect that I am mature enough to deal with the consequences.

Maggie

It’s always refreshing when male characters are attracted to their female love interest for more reasons than just her good looks.

Charmed (2018) Season 2 Episode 2

Like her baby sister, it looked like Mel might also eventually have a new love interest this season.

While the woman at the magic shop was clearly into her, I didn’t sense a lot of chemistry between the two.

It did not compare to the chemistry between Mel and Jada, or between Mel and her longtime lover Niko.

The most exciting storyline this episode without a doubt belonged to Macy. For starters, I can’t wait to see what transpires between Macy, Harry, and… evil demon Harry.

I had a dream about you. Someone like you. He was you, but different.

Macy

After the last episode, I was convinced Macy and Harry would fall for one another. Now, I predict Macy, Harry, and evil demon Harry will end up in a messy supernatural love triangle.

In her dream at the beginning of the episode, evil demon Harry was clearly flirting with Macy, and it looked like she was feeling it.

Thanks to their solo road-trip, Macy also had a few flirty moment with the real Harry this episode.

As much as I love that the Charmed ones are good witches, a small part of me wants Macy to return to the evil side.

I hate to say it, but Macy looked smokin’ hot as a demon!

Macy is hot - Charmed (2018) Season 2 Episode 2

I was nervous for Macy as her blood spilled into the bowl outside of the demon club.

I wasn’t sure whether her status as a half-demon was enough to make her blood look like the other demon’s blood, but her blood easily passed the test.

That made me wonder — is Macy still evil at heart?

Harry: And you saw him too? In your dream?
Macy: Yes. He’s very seductive.

Considering the fact that Macy already took in the source of all evil, and she and evil demon Harry seem to have some type of romantic connection, I wouldn’t be surprised if she relapsed and joined the dark side again this season.

While I am enjoying the new overall direction of the series, there are a few holes in the plot.

I didn’t understand why Macy and Harry had to take an-old fashioned road trip by car when the sisters have the ability to travel through portals in the same way Macy did when she went to see her dad’s grave.

It’s also not clear how the sisters plan to live this new life in Seattle if the entire world thinks that they’ve died.

Will they assume new names? Maggie did not hesitate to tell Jordan her real name at the end of the episode (though with his distracting smile, I’m sure I would tell him anything he wanted to know.)

And how will Maggie apply for a job at the coffee shop without any identification?

I also don’t understand how Mel and Maggie were able to recite a spell to reveal the hidden doors if they don’t have any magic powers.

I did, however, appreciate that the spell was in Spanish to honor the Latina roots of the Vera sisters, instead of in Latin like most TV magic spells.

While the gaps in the plot were slight distractions, I’m still really enjoying this new story line. I love that the writers seem to be revealing new pieces of the plot to us each episode.

Remember your losses, celebrate your victories.

Harry

I want to know what you thought of this week’s episode!

Did anyone else think about Harry Potter when Mel and Maggie talked about the mandrake root?

Do you think Macy will end up with the real Harry, or evil demon Harry?

Are you feeling the show’s new direction?
