Argyle Nails Are The Cosy Cool-Girl Manicure To Know This Autumn

If you want an autumn nail design that’s equal parts cool, cosy, classic and a little preppy, too argyle nails are where it’s at. We’ve seen the heritage print sketched across manicures, offering up a clever way to bring autumn prints into nail art.

It’s a departure from the milky, neutral, glazed pinks that have been dominating, but for a manicure that’s maximalist, knows how to have fun and adds extra interest to your OOTD, it’s top of our save list. And, now that we’re undeniably into the colder season our nails deserve to be wrapped up in a cosy print just as much as the rest of us.

What are argyle nails?

In a similar family to checks and tartan, argyle refers to a distinct overlapping diamond pattern (a bit like tartan turned on the diagonal). It gets its origin from the Scottish Highlands, with the pattern a signature of Clan Campbell, but today it’s recognised as one of the cosiest autumn prints around and is regularly featured across sweaters, socks and scarfs. It’s picked up a preppy reputation along the way, thanks to its association with golf and elevated casual wear.

Argyle nails take the print and applies them to nails courtesy of carefully created nail art. For instance, we have the mix and match set created by Milan-based creative nail artist, Oksana Zavora saved and ready for our next appointment.
