This weekend the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles held it’s sixth annual Academy Museum Gala, welcoming celebrities along its red carpet and into its walls to raise money for its exhibitions, film screenings, community programs, and educational initiatives. While method dressing wasn’t actively encouraged, it seems the A-listers got the memo to honour the Hollywood stars who came before them, taking their cues from the Golden Age of film-making (the 1930’s-1960s).
The red carpet looked like a walk back in time with vintage curls, cat-eye liner, side-flipped partings, ball gowns and nipped-waist skirt suits. It seemed that the guests embodied the very legacies they came to celebrate.
Taylor Swift channelled Grace Kelly
While we know that Taylor Swift holds old-school Hollywood in high esteem, with Elizabeth Taylor a particular muse, Taylor channelled Grace Kelly with her shoulder length golden blonde hair styled into vintage curls and pinned to frame her face. She opted for a 1950s style feline eye liner and wore a dove blue floor-length gown that the greats would have approved of.
