Kacey Musgraves celebrated the second of two sold-out shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden last night (Sept. 1) by welcoming surprise guest Troye Sivan for the long-awaited live debut of their 2020 collaboration, “Easy.”
Australian vocalist Sivan emerged 13 songs into the set to join Musgraves for the tune, which originally appeared on his EP In a Dream. Musgraves’ contribution, along with those of producer Mark Ronson, materialized on a subsequent remix, and she and Sivan also starred as friends on the run in a Bardia Zeinali-directed video. The pair first worked together on “Glittery,” which was part of 2019’s The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show.
Sivan and Musgraves also yucked it up backstage, with Sivan posting a TikTok clip of the singers lip-syncing his recent single, “She’s the Best.”
And although Musgraves referenced her friend and mentor Dolly Parton’s death last week, she did not perform the latter’s beloved “9 to 5,” as she’d done the night before at MSG. The artist’s tour in support of her latest album, Middle of Nowhere, continues tomorrow in Philadelphia and has dates on the books through Oct. 27 in Seattle.
Meanwhile, Musgraves yesterday launched the Heart of the Woods Foundation, which she says is “committed to supporting the many causes that are dear to my heart. I strongly believe music has a way of bringing people together, and I hope this foundation can help do the same.” As part of the kick-off, she has teamed with Propeller to send one winner and a guest to her concert in Austin, Tx., on Oct. 8. Last month, Musgraves also introduced a new limited-edition personal lubricant in tandem with women’s wellness brand Medicine Mama dubbed Drought Drops, a water-based lube and vaginal moisturizer that promises to “keep the dry spells away and the good times coming.” The product references Musgraves’ single “Dry Spell,” which turned a period of romantic drought into a very catchy proposition.
