Netflix has refused to deny that Meghan Markle is joining Season 3 of The Gentlemen amid fevered speculation about the Duchess of Sussex returning to acting.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday, Manda Levin, Netflix’s scripted chief in the UK, was asked whether Markle will appear in The Gentlemen.
“All bets are off,” she replied cryptically.
The Netflix executives did not expand on the speculation on stage, but the lack of a denial leaves open the door for the Suits actress to join Guy Ritchie’s drama.
Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva first revealed that Markle was in talks for a role in The Gentlemen, which was officially greenlit for Season 3 earlier this week. Sources cautioned that the conversations were at an early stage.
While it’s unclear whether the talks will lead to a deal, Markle getting a showy part on The Gentlemen — which films in the UK — would make sense. The stunt casting would bring a lot of attention to the show, and potentially new viewers. And it’s in the family — Markle and Prince Harry have a first-look deal at Netflix, where they have projects in development across film and TV.
Season 2 of The Gentlemen will premiere on September 3, starring Theo James as Eddie Hornimanm, who unexpectedly inherits his father’s sizeable country estate – only to discover it’s part of a cannabis empire.
