Emma Heming Willis is reflecting on meeting Bruce Willis.
The 50-year-old British model and actress appeared on Hoda Kotb‘s podcast Making Space.
During the discussion, she spoke about becoming Bruce‘s caregiver since his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis, as well as their early days together.
“I met him in like 2005, I want to say, and we met at the gym, like most people in Hollywood do, I guess,” she began.
“His time was before mine and we would sort of overlap, and the things I remember about him was just how warm and charismatic, how funny he was, but he always really took the time to want to learn more about me. Just more about who I was, about my life, and prior to that I had never really thought about Bruce Willis.”
“I grew up watching Moonlighting, but I was never really an action movie fan. So when I had noticed him, I had said to my mother ‘I met Bruce Willis, and he’s really a lovely man.’ And my mom was like, ‘What are you doing? You’re engaged to be married.’ I said, ‘No, no, no,’ — yes, at the time, I was engaged to be married, but I had met him and I just noticed that,” she revealed.
“It wasn’t until years later, after my engagement fizzled, thankfully, that we went on our first date, and I just really loved being around him. There was just something very warm, safe and fun. My husband is just so full of life, and it was a really beautiful time. It was a really great time in our lives,” she went on to say. Listen above.
The former couple made their public debut in January of 2008 at Sundance, marrying a year later. They have two daughters together: Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12.
The Pulp Fiction actor also shares daughters Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah with ex-wife Demi Moore, whom he was married to from 1987 to 2000.
Bruce retired from acting in 2022, after he was diagnosed with aphasia that has since progressed to frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
This year, Emma commemorated her 17th wedding anniversary with the 71-year-old actor.
Since his diagnosis, Emma has spoken very candidly about being Bruce‘s caregiver, revealing in August 2025 that he no longer lives in the same house as her and their daughters.
