More Season 5 Details, Fan Farewell Event, Pogue Awards

Netflix‘s Outer Banks is going all out in the fifth and final season, leaving a path of destruction. After the first Season 5 trailer of the hit action adventure series showed John B. (Chase Stokes) watching in horror as Cleo (Carlacia Grant) blows up his beloved van, the second one features a bulldozer ripping apart what appears to be Pougelandia 2.0.

“There is nothing here for us,” John B says just after assuring Sarah (Madelyn Cline) that they had hit rock bottom.

The trailer, which you can watch above, packs a lot of action and a “Huh?” moment. (Like in the previous trailer, there is no mention of Sarah’s pregnancy.)

Kiara (Madison Bailey), clearly still mourning her boyfriend JJ’s (Rudy Pankow) death, has “a stack of books about a magic crown in her car,” per Pope (Jonathan Daviss). As the group is chasing the crown JJ’s biological father Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane) took before killing him in front of Kiara, she explains, “the legend is that the crown can bring back the dead.”

This line raises so many questions. Is Kiara trying to resurrect JJ? Is the show suddenly switching genres from adventure to supernatural? There is no current information about Pankow returning to Outer Banks next season, and the show probably wouldn’t have blown a secret cameo in a trailer.

Along with the new trailer, key art and additional photos, which you can see above and below, Netflix has announced Pogues For Life: A Fan Farewell Event With The Cast Of Outer Banks, which will take place August 15 in Los Angeles.

A successor to the streamer’s Pougelandia fan experience live events, Pogues For Life will feature the inaugural Pogue Awards, a fan-voted OBX awards show with categories commemorating iconic moments from the series’ five-season run.

Following the award show, Stokes, Cline, Bailey, Daviss, Grant and Drew Starkey will take the stage for a conversation before a screening of the first episode of the final season, which will be released as a binge drop five days later, on Aug. 20. The event will be live-streamed on Tudum.com.

Season 5 finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats. With Chandler Groff (Crane) still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B (Stokes), Sarah (Cline), Kiara (Bailey), Pope (Daviss), and Cleo (Grant) must rely on their scrappy instincts — and an uneasy alliance with Rafe (Starkey) — to keep from falling apart for good. Their mission is now a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they’ve been chasing since the beginning. It’s the Pogues against the world as they seek to avenge their best friend and bring it on home…one final time.
