Mercedes Ron‘s pen is responsible for the books behind Prime Video‘s Culpables and My Fault movies and it has signed a first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
Bestselling author Ron has formalized her partnership with Amazon after building the “House of Ron” with the streamer through the Spanish-language Culpables young adult trilogy, which are Amazon MGM Studios’ most-watched international originals with a combined 100 million views worldwide. As part of the new deal, Ron will executive produce all future film adaptations.
Prime Video has since adapted the trilogy into an English-language series of movies currently comprising My Fault and Your Fault: London, with Our Fault: London coming later this year.
Ron also teamed with Amazon MGM Studios on the Dímelo trilogy, whose first film adaptation, Tell Me Softly (Dimelo Bajito), launched on Prime Video last year. Her next pic with Amazon is Drawn Together, which launches on September 9, and she and Amazon MGM Studios are developing 30 Sunsets to Fall in Love (30 Sunsets Para Enamorarte), from her Bali series, which marks a first U.S. adaptation of Ron’s work.
Ron’s stories have been a key driver behind Amazon MGM Studios’ major push into YA content, along with the likes of Maxton Hall: The World Between Us and The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Nicole Clemens, VP and Head of UK and International Originals, Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, announced the first-look deal at an event in L.A. today held ahead of all-day fan event Obsessed Fest. Ron appears at the fest tomorrow, along with Your Fault: London stars Asha Banks and Matthew Broome.
Speaking at the event, Clemens said, “We have 11 book to screen adaptations that are either in production or produced or announced, which is I think phenomenal, but we want many, many more for years and years to come. I think she’s the secret source in this case.”
“Mercedes Ron is an extraordinary talent whose stories have captured the hearts and imaginations of fans around the world. Bringing Mercedes’ characters to life on Prime Video has been one of the most thrilling creative partnerships we’ve had, and we’re just getting started,” she added. “We have Drawn Together coming up this September and we cannot wait to share it with fans. Mercedes is already part of the Amazon MGM Studios family — this represents our continued commitment to expanding the House of Ron.”
“Working with the Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios family to bring my stories to the screen has been an incredible partnership,” added Ron. “I look forward to bringing more of my stories to life for readers around the world through this continued collaboration and am thrilled to serve as an executive producer on upcoming adaptions.”
Ron’s books have sold over six million copies worldwide and have been translated into 26 languages and released in 50 countries. Her upcoming novel Drawn Together, is the first in the Marfil duology and will be published on August 4.
Ron is represented by WME and Johanna Castillo and Tom Ishizuka at Writers House Literary Agency.
