Few performers have built a connection to Marilyn Monroe quite like Despina Mirou.

As the world celebrates the 100th birthday of one of Hollywood’s most iconic stars, Despina is once again stepping into Monroe’s legendary shoes—this time in the new television drama series N.Y. State of Mind.
For the past eight years, Despina has become internationally recognized for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe, performing in major venues including the Comedy Store, the Laugh Factory, and theaters throughout New York and London. Her performances have earned her a devoted following, with audiences consistently praising her ability to capture Monroe’s glamour, charisma, humor, and unmistakable screen presence.
Now that remarkable journey has reached another milestone.
After performing as Marilyn Monroe during a live show at New York City’s Producers Club, Despina caught the attention of director Donny Kash. Impressed by both her appearance and performance, Kash immediately cast her as Marilyn Monroe in his television series N.Y. State of Mind, produced by W.N.F. Productions.

The role marks the third time Despina has been discovered live on stage and cast as Marilyn Monroe without a formal audition.
Her first breakthrough came when British director Paul Wiffen saw her perform and selected her to portray Monroe in the drama film Birth of a Goddess. Later, New York filmmaker Eric Rivas cast her as Marilyn in the feature film Enter the Requiem after witnessing her live performance. During filming in Times Square, Despina’s transformation into Monroe reportedly drew so much attention that pedestrians stopped to watch and photograph the scene.
In N.Y. State of Mind, Despina stars alongside actor Shane Lawer in a series packed with crime, suspense, action, and powerful drama. According to those involved in the production, Despina demonstrated remarkable versatility, seamlessly adapting to last-minute dialogue changes and bringing additional depth to her scenes.
Created by Donny Kash and Carla Byrd, N.Y. State of Mind aims to capture the energy, challenges, and excitement of modern-day New York City. The series combines compelling characters, crime-driven storylines, and emotional drama designed to keep viewers engaged from beginning to end.

Years ago, entertainment publications began referring to Despina as “The Brunette Marilyn Monroe,” a nickname inspired by her striking resemblance to the legendary actress and her natural ability to channel Monroe’s timeless appeal. Since then, her popularity has continued to expand internationally through film, television, comedy, and live performance.
Many fans believe there is something uniquely special about Despina’s connection to Monroe. Like Marilyn, she possesses a rare combination of beauty, vulnerability, humor, and magnetism that captivates audiences wherever she performs. Her fan base continues to grow across the United States, Europe, and beyond, with supporters often comparing the excitement surrounding her appearances to the fascination that once surrounded Monroe herself.
Adding to the celebration, renowned New York celebrity photographer Rob Klein has captured a stunning series of photographs featuring Despina as Marilyn Monroe, creating images that pay tribute to one of Hollywood’s greatest legends while showcasing a modern performer carrying that legacy forward.

As Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday is celebrated around the world, Despina Mirou continues to prove why audiences remain captivated by her portrayal of the screen icon. From comedy clubs and theater stages to films and television, her journey demonstrates that while legends may never be replaced, they can certainly inspire a new generation of performers to keep their spirit alive.
