EXCLUSIVE: Curry Barker‘s next movie from Blumhouse–Atomic Monster and Focus Features, Anything But Ghosts, will also star Superstore and The Mindy Project actor Chris Reinacher. Spooky Pictures and Divide/Conquer are also producers on the pic.
The news comes in the wake of Barker’s current pic in cinemas, Obsession, becoming Focus Features highest grossing movie at the domestic box office with more than $111M, as well as an A- Cinemascore, rare for a horror film.
Reinacher joins previously cast Barker, Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard, Violet McGraw and Cooper Tomlinson, who were previously announced.
Blumhouse and Atomic Monster were key in identifying Barker: Upon boarding Anything But Ghosts some time ago, they encouraged Focus Features to acquire the YouTube genre content creator’s feature directorial debut, Obsession, out of TIFF Midnight.
Reinacher is a filmmaker, comedian, writer, and digital creator. His scripted and unscripted videos have amassed over 400 million views online. His short films have been screened at Sundance and Cannes. His latest directorial work can be seen on the That’s a Bad Idea YouTube channel in the short film, Fly Me to the Earth, a Sci-Fi Comedy he directed, co-wrote, and stars alongside Curry Barker and Cooper Tomlinson.
In television, he served as showrunner for Read the Room, a digital sketch show which has over 100M views online. He has performed as an actor on Your Friends Will Never Believe You, NBC’s Superstore, Fox’s The Mindy Project, as well as Adult Swim, Comedy Central Digital and lead the series Teenage Mountain Lion on Hulu.
As an early adopter to digital content, Reinacher is an original member of Buzzfeed Video, where he produced weekly viral content for the first three years of the company’s growth. His personal YouTube page has nearly 400,000 subscribers, and his podcast, Wine & Weed, has over 3,000,000 streams and guests like Michael B Jordan, Machine Gun Kelly, Quinta Brunson & Jo Koy.
Barker co-wrote Anything But Ghosts with his longtime collaborator Cooper Tomlinson. Tomlinson also stars in Obsession. With Barker, he’s part of the viral comedy group, That’s a Bad Idea which millions of followers across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. The pic is produced by Jason Blum (Blumhouse-Atomic Monster), Roy Lee & Steven Schneider (Spooky Pictures), Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath (Divide/Conquer), in association with Image Nation and That’s a Bad Idea.
