Who is Beau?
As well as the main stars of the show Hannah and Garrett, Off Campus follows the lives, romances and friendships of the other students at Briar University.
The series is based on the book series Off Campus by Elle Kennedy, and while season one of the show follows Hannah and Garrett primarily, later seasons are expected to include the wider cast of characters, which includes Dean, Allie, Logan and other side characters like Beau Maxwell (Khobe Clarke).
Speaking of the latter — while he has small appearances in books one and two, he doesn’t really make a large appearance in Kennedy’s book series until book three, Off Campus — The Score. In the TV show, he’s introduced to viewers in episode six of season one of the Prime Video show, setting the scene for a tragedy that is expected to occur in later seasons.
He’s best pals with Garrett and Dean Heyward Di Laurentis (Stephen Kalyn), one of the other star hockey players on the team. By episode six, he’s one of the favourite cast members, appearing regularly as part of the tight-knit group of friends.
How does Beau die in Off-Campus?
Spoilers ahead — you have been warned! Fans of The Score will know that the book reveals a heartbreaking chain of events that leads to Beau’s sad death, but for the uninitiated, here’s what happens: After visiting his grandmother in Wisconsin, Beau was in the car with his dad when everything went horribly wrong. A deer suddenly darted out into the road, forcing his dad to swerve to avoid it. The car then hit a patch of black ice and slammed straight into a tree. Beau sadly died instantly after the impact snapped his neck, while his father somehow walked away completely uninjured.
While dedicated fans will already have known about Beau’s death, bringing his character in so early helps viewers of the show who don’t already have a reference of the storyline build a relationship with him and makes his eventual death hit even harder later on in the story. Don’t say we didn’t warn ya.
