The Voice will have some new blood for Season 30.
Country singer Riley Green will join Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine as a coach on the NBC show.
Season 29, which just ended, saw Clarkson, Levine and John Legend as the three coaches. Season 30, which returns in the fall, will feature four coaches with one other star joining the trio soon.
Green has released three albums and is known for hits including There Was This Girl, I Wish Grandpas Never Died, Half of Me and Different ‘Round Here, which he did with Luke Combs.
While the move marks Green’s first role as a judge on a singing competition, he was one of the stars on CMT’s 2012 reality series Redneck Island. He also recently appeared in a four-episode arc on CBS’ Yellowstone spinoff Marshals as one of Kayce Dutton’s former Navy SEAL teammates.
Green revealed his new gig on his Instagram page with a voicemail from Kelly Clarkson (see below).
Clarkson said, “We have never officially met… I am super stoked to coach alongside you. Welcome to The Voice. I was stoked when I heard you’re going to be a coach because I actually am a super fan of your music, man, you’re so good. You probably know that, because I’ve covered your songs, big fan. But, needless to say, fan and all, it’s a competition. So I, as a future friend, I sent you something, a little gift, while you’re out on the road doing shows to get your head in the game for The Voice coming up, because I think you’re gonna need the practice, because team Kelly’s gonna whoop that ass.”
“I guess y’all can start calling me coach… see ya this fall,” Green added.
The Voice is produced by MGM Television, Warner Horizon Unscripted Television and ITV America. It was created by John De Mol, who exec produces alongside Mark Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Amanda Zucker, Kyra Thompson, Adam H. Sher and Barry Poznick.
