Lauren Sánchez Bezos has arrived at the Met Gala.
The former television journalist walked the cream carpet in an off the shoulder couture gown with a fallen pearl-and-crystal straps and a corset bodice by Schiaparelli. It was visually similar to the dress worn in one of the museum’s most famous paintings: Madame X.
The Costume Institute fundraiser’s dress code this year is “fashion is art”—so the reference is an intentional one. Schiaparelli’s founder, Elsa Schiaparelli, is also closely tied to Surrealism, the avant-garde, 1920s artistic movement inspired by dreams and the subconscious.
The French fashion house is a familiar one to Sánchez Bezos. For her 2025 wedding to Jeff Bezos in Venice, she wore a Schiaparelli haute couture look to their welcome dinner. And this January, she attended the brand’s haute couture show in Paris.
The Bezoses are honorary chairs of this year’s Met Gala and this year’s primary sponsors. The couple’s involvement with the gala has prompted calls to boycott the whole event from many online, and even prompted some to dub it the “Bezos gala.” Several prominent Silicon Valley figures were in attendance, including Google’s Sergey Brin.
It’s just the latest high profile appearance for the couple. Last week, they both attended the White House’s state dinner in honor of King Charles and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom. The Trump-administration hosted affair also saw Tim Cook, David Ellison, and multiple Supreme Court justices as guests.
