Netflix Unveils Trailer For Australian Succession Drama

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its big-budget Australian succession drama Territory, premiering on October 24.

The story revolves around the “world’s largest cattle station” named Marianne Station, which is left without a clear successor. Generational clashes threaten to tear the Lawson family apart. Sensing this once-great dynasty is in decline, the outback’s most powerful factions — rival cattle barons, desert gangsters, Indigenous elders and billionaire miners — move in for the kill, with billions of dollars at stake.

The trailer opens with expansive landscapes of mountain ranges and rivers, before shots of family members and local residents finding out the news of cattle baron Daniel Lawson’s death.

“People say that everything up here is trying to kill you: the climate, the land. You learn to live with it, it makes us who we are,” notes a voiceover in the trailer.

Originally filmed under the working title Desert King, Territory stars Anna Torv (The Last of Us), Michael Dorman (For All Mankind) and Sam Corlett (Vikings: Valhalla).

An Easy Tiger and Ronde production for Netflix, Territory was filmed across the Northern Territory and South Australia with support from Screen Territory and South Australian Film Corporation. Shooting locations include Tipperary Station and the Kakadu National Park, filmed with permission from the sites’ traditional owners.

Ben Davies, who co-created the 18-season global breakout show Bondi Rescue, is one of the co-creators and executive producers of Territory.

Timothy Lee (Mystery Road) is the other co-creator and co-writer of Territory, with Greg McLean (Wolf Creek) onboard as director.

Other shows on Netflix’s Australia slate this year include the adaptation of Boy Swallows Universe and season two of Heartbreak High — with the third and final season on the way for the latter.
