‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Jumps To 2025; ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Goes To Summer In 2024 Theatrical Shake-Up Due To Actors Strike

Following Disney’s delay of Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3 due to the actors strike, Paramount has made changes to next year’s schedule and beyond.

Similar to Deadpool 3, Mission Impossible 8 ne Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two needs to restart production, and that is looking unlikely with each day that passes in the SAG-AFTRA strike. The Tom Cruise sequel moves from June 28, 2024 next year to May 23, 2025 Memorial Day. The studio will have to access to Imax screens and Memorial Day is a special place as that’s where Cruise launched his biggest movie of all-time, Top Gun: Maverick to $1.49 billion WW.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One grossed $172.1M domestic, $567.5M WW this past summer. That’s a lot of money to remove from the 2024 box office, but such is the nature of the business right now. Mission: Impossible 8 will get a three-week run in Imax and will be filmed with Imax digital cameras for the Imax format. Do you hear that loud and clear, Christopher Nolan and Universal? Left on June 28 next year is New Line’s Kevin Costner movie, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter One and Sony’s Horrorscope. On Mission: Impossible 8‘s new weekend in 2025, there’s currently an untitled Disney film.

The horror spinoff A Quiet Place: Day One from filmmaker Michael Sarnoski and starring Lupita Nyong’o and Denis Hare is now opening on June 28, 2024 with Imax screens having moved from March 8, 2024. A Quiet Place: Day One moves away from Kung Fu Panda 4 (and also Dune Part: Two on March 15) and heads to a Mission: Impossible 8‘s old weekend. The spinoff dropped a trailer during Paramount’s session at CinemaCon which thrilled the room.

The John Krasinski directed Ryan Reynolds starring movie, IF, is moving up a week to May 17 next year instead of May 24. On its news date, IF faces off with an untitled Universal movie and moves away from a crowded Memorial Day weekend (which will likely be shaken up more) where there’s Warner Bros/Village Roadshow’s Max Max spinoff, Furiosa, Sony’s Garfield and 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Also, the untitled animated SpongeBob SquarePants movie previously dated for May 23, 2025 will go on Dec. 19, 2025. On its new date, SpongeBob will bump heads with Avatar 3 and an untitled Warner Bros. movie.
