When it comes to gift giving, President Joe Biden is quite the romantic. In an interview on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that aired on Dec. 19, the Bidens sat down with the talk-show host to chat about their relationship and family traditions ahead of the holidays. During their conversation, Dr. Jill Biden revealed that the president gives her the same thoughtful gift every year: a handwritten poem.
“He has a book that he bought for me, and every year he writes a poem,” Jill shared. When Barrymore asked Joe if he writes the poems every year himself, he replied, “Of course I do. I have a lot to write about.” However, he admitted the sentimental present “doesn’t quite do it” on its own, and he’s sure to get a material gift as well. “I really enjoy shopping for Jill for gifts,” he said, adding with confidence that he feels “very good” about his gift for her this Christmas. “He pretty much gets it right,” Jill said. During the rest of the chat — which was their first joint interview on daytime TV as the president and first lady — they spoke about Joe’s five proposals to Jill, played a version of the newlywed game, and gave Barrymore a tour of the White House Christmas decorations.
