There’s nowhere on the internet where you can become an overnight viral sensation (or flop) faster than on TikTok.
The Chinese app, which was launched in 2016, has quickly become beloved around the world for its fun, creative and often explosive way of sharing videos among friends – and the entire TikTok community of one billion users.
It has the power to send MUAs and skincare gurus viral, make regular people stars overnight, launch quirky drinks trends and sell out products in seconds (hi, CeraVe).
It is also where some of Spring’s most major hair trends are surfacing – and with summer approaching, TikTok creators are proving that it’s time to get creative.
As the sun comes out, updos and heatless styles comes into play, making this the season of cute buns, bubble braids and beachy waves.
Want in? Here are the five hair trends dominating TikTok RN…
Bubble braids
TikTok has been full of variations of bubble braids and they’re super easy to master for warmer weather. Bubble braids offer up a cool twist on simple ponytails or classic plaits and they only take a few seconds more to create. Basically, if you can do a ponytail, you can do a bubble braid. Simply get a piece of hair at the front and secure it with a hair tie, then grab some more hair and add another hair tie leaving an inch gap between each one. Pull the hair between the hair ties out to create the bubble look and show off your efforts on social media, natch.
French twist
Don’t worry, the pack of ten claw clips you got for Christmas are not going to waste. The Y2K claw clips are back: new and improved but with a classy twist. This follows the growing trend of increasingly ‘girly’ clothing styles of this year. Not only is this a mature take on the original Y2K look, but it is more secure and looks a lot harder than it actually is.
Beachy waves with mini braids
Mini braids that frame the face or throughout the hair are the perfect way to add texture and a beachy feel without the effort. It works perfectly with both beachy waves and straight hair, so is great for all occasions. The best part is that you can create it without a hair tie. Simply braid your hair, but don’t separate the bottom pieces as they plait themselves together, just before the bottom of the braid and the top meet, thread the bottom through the middle and it will stay put all day.
Cute buns
Low or high, cute buns are back in a big way. The perfect way to get your hair off your face (especially on those greasy hair days), this celebrity-adored look is all over TikTok RN.
90s blowout
Don’t throw away your rollers just yet as the 90s blowout is making a comeback. TikTokkers are wearing the bouncy Clueless look with a cute summer dress or colourful jeans to amp up the 90s vibes.
