Khloe Kardashian just made the ‘micro bob’ *the* low-maintenance hairstyle of spring

The curly bob, the blunt bob, the asymmetrical bob, the collarbone bob; it may feel like we’ve seen every single iteration of the bob hairstyle so far this year but it seems we’re not quite done.

Our favourite celebrities and hairstylists are touting the ‘micro bob’ as the latest and greatest incarnation of the bob and Khloe Kardashian is making a serious case for it.

After making an appearance backstage at the AW20 shows, the hairstyle is now filtering into the mainstream, with hairdressers dubbing it a classic style that never goes out of fashion.

“2020 sees the bob reinvented and leaning towards a more classic finish with super sharp lines and blunt edges, which nicely complements the current softer tones we are noticing in hair colour at the moment,” says Krysia West, Aveda’s Cutting Professional and Colour Ambassador.

Jack Hirst, Senior stylist at SALON64, says the style is perfect for anyone seeking a dramatic change; something the Kardashians are no stranger. “This style is uber on trend with all the ear cuff jewellery we are seeing now and this cut looks incredible with one side tucked behind the ear,” he said. “It’s a great excuse for girls who want to chop all their damaged hair off but couldn’t relate to anyone younger with that length.”

He adds that when it comes to styling, dry shampoos and texture sprays give the cut guts and sass and going bolder with hair colour will also give the look extra impact.

James Alfie Parr, Celebrity Session Stylist and Manager of Brotherhood, agrees, explaining that the micro bob is great for those who like a low-maintenance look that requires minimal effort styling (guilty), as you can simply add some texture spray to your hair and you’re pretty much good to go.

He does however, emphasise that you need to carefully consider the styling. “You will need to be aware that your hair may not be able to fit into a ponytail or a bun,” he said. “Another thing to consider is your hairdresser. A shorter haircut requires more precision and you should make sure you have found the right hairdresser who is skilled at these types of haircuts prior to getting your hair cut. It’s important to visit a reputable short hairdressing expert who will be able to recommend the best short hairstyle to suit you and that will draw attention to the right places of your face, the features that you like, and draw attention away from the features you don’t like.”

He also adds that your hair will actually change after you have it cut; for example, you may find your hair to be curlier, or you may find you have a cowlick that you didn’t think you had with your long hair.

“Adding some layers like Khloe is also beneficial to ensure the shape isn’t too ‘boxy’ and gives her style a very Parisian cool girl feel.”

Trés chic.
