How to Get Away with Murder Season 6 Episode 2 Review: Vivian’s Here

It’s becoming increasingly clear that this is going to be one hell of a final season.

Things are moving at a pretty brisk pace, and in How to Get Away with Murder Season 6 Episode 2 countless revelations will undoubtedly affect the storylines moving forward.

Brisk movement isn’t always a good thing, but it wouldn’t be How To Get Away With Murder if the end of an episode didn’t leave your mind in a pretzel.

Vivian Maddox’s Philadephia arrival was the big shocker of the hour, and she wasted no time letting both Annalise and Gabriel know that she came to speak her mind.

Vivian has always been a bit of an enigma.

But within moments of her first interaction with Annalise, it was clear she came there to get her son back. There was no way she was willing to lose another man to Annalise.

Vivian’s frustrations with Gabriel are clear, as she has been lied to repeatedy.

But at the same time, Gabriel has been hurting for a very long time as well. He came to Philadelphia to learn about his father, and while he hasn’t gotten all of the answers he was looking for, he’s established a life.

His mother blowing into town threatens that, and his decision to push her away isn’t surprising.

Hurt people hurt people. And Gabriel has been nothing but hurt for a very long time.

That pain is only going to deepened, as it will become crystal clear that Michaela betrayed him.

Once Annalise found out that Vivian was talking to the FBI, she had to play the only hand she had left. No matter how upset Vivian was with Gabriel, she will always protect him first.

Vivian: Did you kill Sam?
Annalise: I’ve never killed anyone in my life, but try me.

Annalise and Vivian’s dynamic was fraught with tension, and every time the two women shared a scene, that tension was palpable.

When Vivian was romanticizing Sam, it felt like a slap in the face to all the woman he terrorized in his lifetime. Sam preyed on the weak, and it was powerful to hear Annalise fight back against the assertion that Sam was some kind of magical being.

Her warped perception of Sam has cast a shadow over her whole life. And her hatred of Annalise will only lead her down a dangerous path.

The cases of the week come and go at this stage of the series, but when they show up they are always cases relevant to the world as we know it today.

Young Hector seeking asylum and literally being so traumatized by ICE that he shrieks at the sight of their jacket is as powerful as it gets.

Connor was tactical and precise in his defense of Hector’s basic rights as a human being.

For a while now Connor has been preoccupied with the reason Annalise chose him to be apart of the Keating 5. Call me crazy, but I don’t think there’s some dark secret out there that we don’t know connecting the two.

He’s a good lawyer and Annalise sees that inside of him.

When you take away all the crime and law-breaking, you have to remember these were all kids who originally just wanted to make a difference.

And even though he’s struggled to know what it is he wants, Connor excels in the courtroom and maybe he doesn’t need to look outside of that knowledge when pondering why someone like Annalise would want him on her team.

For Michaela, finding out that Annalise knew her father sends her on a downward spiral.

Annalise keeps people in the dark for their own good. Or at least that’s what she tells herself.

Is it possible she was telling the truth about not knowing Michaela’s father? Yes. But you can’t blame everyone for second- guessing her.

When it’s convenient for Annalise to be upfront, she will be. But if she feels like a lie will protect those around her, she won’t hesitate to do it.

Perhaps it’s the endless lies that eventually killed her.

If you believe she’s the one in that casket.

The show is touting this ‘Who killed Annalise?’ angle, but we’d be fools to just believe that there’s not a bigger play here. She could be faking her death for all we know.

One thing we do know is that fairly soon Michaela is being interrogated, she looks like she’s been through the wringer, and her fingerprints are all over the fire poker we assume is from Annalise’s house.

We also know that an informant is dead. That’s a pretty wide net at this point, as it’s starting to feel like more people are talking to the FBI than not.

Things are never, ever what they seem in this world, so we better get more information before we write anyone’s obituary.

Everything Else You Need To Know

  • Bonnie really got herself fired after Vivian’s documents. Was it worth it?
  • There was a Wes sighting! Even though it was in a flashback, it was still nice to see him. He’s been gone for so long now you forget what an integral part he was to the show overall.
  • Speaking of Wes, Frank came up with that fake ID in the blink of an eye. That Frank, ever the mystery.
  • Jorge can’t stand Laurel, huh?
  • Laurel clearing out that safety deposit box a few days before Frank got there feels like a red herring. If Frank blinked a got a fake ID, someone else could have as well.
  • Michaela and Gabriel have felt forced at times, but they finally hit a bit of a stride and get people to at the very least just except their coupling only to have it probably be blown up. Thanks a lot for spilling, Asher!
  • They’ve never been able to utilize Nate consistently. Now he shows up to show people pictures on his phone and that’s about it.

The best thing to do after an episode of this twisty, nighttime soap is to talk about it.

Please throw all your theories out in the comments so we can discuss everything!
