This sense of fun transitions smoothly into “Save It For Another Time,” which expands the musical landscape with layered ideas while maintaining a strong emphasis on storytelling through its vocal delivery.
“Bennie and The Hepcats” stands out as one of the album’s more inventive pieces. With a playful concept and a retro-inspired sound, it feels like a modern reimagining of the classic Elton John number. The song blends piano melodies with a touch of glam influence, creating a vivid and slightly whimsical narrative about aging characters and ambitious newcomers chasing larger-than-life dreams. If I could offer any constructive criticism, and trust me I don’t have much to offer, I sincerely feel some of this music sounds too much like Sir Elton. I would suggest Rob Alexander write his own story, and develop his own signature sound, while still sounding comparable to Elton John in the process.
Overall, It Just So Happens succeeds in merging a respect for classic pop sensibilities with a desire to tell stories that feel relevant and personal. While its influences are easy to recognize, they never overshadow Alexander’s own artistic voice, allowing the album to feel both comfortably familiar and uniquely his own.
