The ‘Mouse Haircut’ Is Set To Be Everywhere For Autumn 2026

Why choose the mouse haircut?

Timing-wise, it couldn’t be more appropriate now we’re adding extra layers to our outfits, because it stands to reason we’d want a little extra cosiness around our face, too.

Fringes are a major trend for autumn (not so unexpectedly) and while there’s lots of ways to wear one (wispy, curtain, curved and ‘90s), the ’70s style is our breakout favourite. In fact, the ‘70s aesthetic is leading fashion trends (like the boho blouses) and it’s also seen Birkin bangs take off once more (which are very mouse cut coded).

Even better, the chop gives versatility. Take one of the cuts most high profile fans, Taylor Swift, for example. She kept her hairstyle consistent across her almost 21-month tour, and the fact it worked across all of Taylor’s different eras just goes to show how much range it has. Depending on how you style it and the way in which you carry it, it can read whimsical, romantic, edgy or a little alternative.

Plus, we keep seeing some of our favourite hair muses gravitate toward the cut. Daisy Edgar-Jones has been styling out her mouse haircut while on her press tour for Sense & Sensibility. With the help of her hair stylist, Bryce Scarlett, we’ve seen it worn windswept, like Jane Austen heroine, sleek, straight, wavy and rumpled. As for her fringe it’s been pulled forward and swept to either side. Elsewhere, the chop is the signature style of our forever hair inspo, Dakota Johnson. Whitney Peak is curly mouse haircut goals and Jennifer Lawrence has been getting in on the hairstyle, too.

How to wear the mouse haircut?

To match with the understated shape, it works best loosely styled and paired with your natural texture, whether that’s semi-straight, wavy or curly. Although we’ve seen it worn bouncy and blowdried, too if you want something a little more glam.
