With access to a Hollywood glam squad, Olivia can choose to wear her hair any way she likes, but the actress has chosen to decline the pressure placed on A listers to remain ageless and instead embraced a natural aesthetic, fitting of a woman in her fifties.
In fact, Olivia has spoken previously about rejecting ageism. In her 2019 cover interview with American Vogue she mused: “To be the ingenue and to keep working is rare because once people see you as that, they don’t like the process of ageing.” Calling the custom “fucking ridiculous” Olivia explained “I grew to my place.” In the same interview she revealed she’s working to reach a loving relationship with her body image after a turbulent start. “I look up pictures of myself as a teenager, and I think I was gorgeous. But I didn’t feel that,” she said. “All those little comments through those precious years can have long-lasting negative effects. You see images of a perfect person and say, ‘I can never be that.’” She continued: “Over the years, pounds have gone on, and my body has changed; I’ve had children.” But, she adds: “If someone doesn’t like me because of the size of my bum, they can fuck off. Because I’m quite a nice person to be with, actually.”
So, if we didn’t love Olivia Colman enough already, her latest collaboration with Miu Miu is helping to re-set the agenda and celebrate womanhood at all ages and stages of life.
