Which designers are championing the pointed toe boot?
With everyone from Louis Vuitton and Mugler to Lanvin, Gabriela Hearst and Situationist showcasing pointed toe boots, you might think that this season is playing host to something of a revival of the look, but according to Google Trends, they’ve actually been on the rise in popularity for the last five years.
Search data in fact reveals an over 400% increase since 2020, so if you don’t already own a pair, the good news is you’re jumping on the bandwagon at the right time.
Why are they so popular?
Tricky-to-style bottoms – such as wide-leg trousers, wide-leg jeans and barrel leg jeans – all suit a pointed toe boot. By nature, a pointed toe tends to be narrower and therefore works in balance with anything baggy (including your favourite dresses), and it also elongates the leg giving the flattering illusion of extra height.
So, while the best autumn boots and winter boots vary from pirate boots and moto boots to sock boots and cowboy boots, one thing’s for sure, you’ll be seeing a lot of pointed toes.
Why you can trust us
As a senior commerce writer and fashion editor, you won’t be surprised to hear that we have researched, shopped, tried-on and road-tested more than a few new season buys. It is our job, after all. But when it comes to shoes we’d be lying if we said we kept things strictly professional. One of our key wardrobe weaknesses, there’s something about the variety and versatility of the best new shoe trends that can make them difficult to walk away from. But that’s not to say there aren’t some total duds, and after well over a decade of both professional and personal research we’d like to think we can spot them. We can confidently say, therefore, that the ones in this edit are not only worth your consideration but are also ones you’ll return to time and time again, year after year, season after season.
How we test the best pointed toe boots
Does anyone ever truly need a new pair of boots? We’d argue not, but we’d also argue that fashion doesn’t always need to be a ‘need’ in order to be a good buy. Sometimes a ‘want’ provides a whole lot more joy, and isn’t that half the point of putting together an outfit? But that’s not to say that we should be frittering away our hard-earned money on just anything, of course. Which is exactly why we’ve taken it upon ourselves to provide some true boots-on-the-ground (we couldn’t resist) research in order to make sure that our pick of the best truly is the best, with an edit of our favourites according to some very strict criteria; a great look, comfort, versatility, timelessness and quality fabrics.
Only 24 ticked enough boxes to make the cut, which should reassure you that the final edit is one you can truly trust. Just promise that you’ll share the Proenza pair with me if you buy them.
