Taylor Swift is back for an encore. The pop superstar has released The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, an expanded edition of her 2025 album featuring four brand-new songs: “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding,” and “Babylon.”
The new material wasn’t left over from the original Showgirl sessions. Instead, as Swift explained, she returned to Sweden with Max Martin and Shellback after the album’s record-breaking opening week, initially intending to celebrate what they’d made. Naturally, there was a studio nearby. “We wrote more songs,” she said, adding that the tracks were “born out of pure gratitude” for fans’ response to the album.
That makes The Encore something of a reversal for Swift, who was adamant upon the original album’s release that its 12-song tracklist was complete. “There’s not a 13th, there’s not other ones coming,” she said at the time, explaining that adding or removing anything would upset the record’s carefully constructed balance.

“Patient Zero” serves as the first single from the expanded edition and arrives just days before the 2026 MTV VMAs on September 27th. The Life of a Showgirl is nominated for Best Album at this year’s ceremony, where Swift is also set to receive the newly created Artist Director Honor.
