Burgundy nail ideas came out on top as the colour that will rule autumn-winter 2026. Granted, the shade is not revolutionary for this time of year… But, it sure as hell is chic though. September marks a shift in our calendar, away from the end of summer to a new wardrobe and beauty aesthetic. And nothing kicks off the new season quite like a burgundy manicure. What are burgundy nails?
Burgundy nails are in the red colour family, but they’re on the mid-to-deep end of the spectrum, with a bit of purple added in, too. They’re darker than a post-box red, but not as deep as black cherry shades which read as nearly black.
Why choose burgundy nails?
The shade feels expensive, classic, cosy and sophisticated, which is why it’s still very much on the fashion map for AW26. Plus, the top nail pros setting the agenda are firmly behind it. “Rich ruby red will be the headlining shade for autumn,” confirms leading celebrity nail artist, Michelle Humphrey, whose clients include Dua Lipa, Simone Ashley and Charli XCX. “Red never really disappears, but it was prominent on the autumn/winter runways and this season it feels deeper and more luxurious, moving away from summer’s bright tomato tones into ruby, wine and oxblood shades,” she adds. “My favourite shades to try at home are Essie Bordeaux and Spiked With Style,” Michelle recommends.
“Rich espresso and deep burgundy are going to be defining shades of autumn,” concurs top celebrity manicurist and OPI Global Ambassador, Zola Ganzorigt, who counts Hailey Bieber, Blackpink’s Jennie and Kylie Jenner as clients. “They feel timeless, elevated and incredibly versatile – the perfect neutral for the season. I’m loving colours that feel luxurious and effortless, especially with a high-gloss finish,” she says. She tells us OPI’s Nail Lacquer in Malaga Wine is one of her favourite ways to wear the shade.
