Gigi Hadid Has Signed-Off “Love Layers” As The Cutest Hairstyle RN

Layered hair is always evolving, whether it’s the return of the mussy shag, or the sleek ‘90s-inspired Curve Cut. Now? The latter has had an update. Gigi Hadid has us convinced that “Love layers” are the prettiest spin-off to save for your next salon appointment.

Coined by top celebrity hair stylist, Dimitris Giannetos, (who counts Gigi Hadid, Kim Kardashian, Ciara, Demi Moore and Cindy Crawford among his clients), the hairstyle reinvents long ‘90s layers once again. So if you’re a fan of ‘The Rachel’, this one’s for you.

What are “love layers”?

Hard-launching the trend with a picture of the hairstyle on Gigi Hadid, Dimitris shared details on the inspiration behind the look in the caption. “I wanted to create the updated version of the C-cut,” Dimitris explained.

For the uninitiated, the C-cut or “curve cut” features long, gently descending curved or C-shaped layers that lean in and cup the cheek chin and collarbone, to give volume and movement, but in a softer way than choppy shags and wolf cuts.

Love layers, Dimitris explained are “heart shape layers”. They’re achieved by adding extra lift at the roots through styling, so that the hair lifts up and out from a centre parting, before tapering in beneath the jaw.

The first layers should start hitting “a little below the chin,” Dimitris clarified. It basically creates the illusion of heart shape layers: volume at the top, narrow at the bottom. Essentially the style taps up your layers and uses them to create the illusion of a contour around the face to provide more structure. And to get that classic heart outline? “This haircut looks good [with] a mid part,” Dimitris said.

How to get love layers?

As for how to style love layers, Dimitris clued us up there as well. To create that modern bouncy shape, blow dry hair with a big round brush and pin it up until it cools down. Once it has, let it loose and brush through your hair with your fingers. You can manipulate the hair, teasing at the roots a little, to encourage that lift on either side of the parting to create your heart shape, then “last spray some hairspray,” to lock it in place, says Dimitris.

It’s an easy styling tweak, especially if you already have long, ‘90s layers, but it helps it feel a little more romantic. We’re in love.
