Paramount+ Buys BBC’s ‘Wild Cherry’ Starring Eve Best & Carmen Ejogo

Paramount+ has bought Wild Cherry, the spooky BBC series from Nicôle Lecky, one of the UK’s most exciting creatives.

Wild Cherry stars The Penguin’s Carmen Ejogo and House of the Dragon‘s Eve Best and is about people born into a world of wealth and good fortune. Life is perfect in this luxurious haven until Lorna and Juliet’s daughters are implicated in a shocking scandal. As toxic secrets ripple through the idyllic town, while Lorna and Juliet are forced to take sides, cracks form in the community, shattering its perfect image.

The series will air on Paramount+ in the U.S., Canada, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and Latin America from June 24.

Lecky is the creator of BBC series Mood, which won her two BAFTAs. Wild Cherry rated and reviewed well in the UK when it aired last year. Speaking to Deadline a year ago, Lecky said the show, which deals with themes around class and the super rich, was more sellable to the States than Mood.

Lecky also stars in Wild Cherry alongside Imogen Faires (Goldie’s OldiesMarcella) and Amelia May. The series’ ensemble cast is comprised of Sophie Winkleman (Peep ShowSanditon), Daniel Lapaine (Catastrophe), Hayat Kamille (Vikings: Valhalla), Isabelle Allen (Les Misérables), James Murray (The Crown), Jason York (Mood), Katarina Čas (The Wolf of Wall Street), Nathaniel Martello-White (The Winter King), Sonita Henry (Black Cake), Tara Webb (Phoenix Rise), Will Bagnall (A Thousand Blows) and Hugh Quarshie (Holby City).

Wild Cherry is produced by Firebird Pictures, one of BBC Studios’ owned production labels. The series is written and created by Lecky, with Toby MacDonald (ExtraordinaryFifteen-Love) directing. In addition to Lecky, executive producers include Elizabeth Kilgarriff, Craig Holleworth for Firebird, Lisa Walters, Toby MacDonald and Lucy Richer for the BBC. Ado Yoshizaki Cassuto serves as producer. BBC Studios handles global sales.
