Emilia Fox will join experts to discuss the truth about true crime shows in a session just added to Deadline’s Reality TV Summit at SXSW London on June 2.
The summit explores the biggest trends shaping unscripted television, with the true crime session examining where the line lies between compelling storytelling and sensationalism.
Titled ‘The Truth About True Crime’, the session will feature Fox, star of shows including the BBC’s Silent Witness and also presenter of Channel 4’s cold-case series In the Footsteps of Killers. Her co-host on that show, the criminologist, author, and Birmingham City University Emeritus Professor David Wilson, will join her on stage.
Felicity Morris, one of the leading producers working in true crime television, will also take part in the session. Her credits include The Tinder Swindler, Don’t F**k With Cats and American Nightmare.
Sky’s Bruce Fletcher will provide a commissioning perspective, with Sky heavily invested in premium true crime programming.
The panelists will go behind the scenes of premium true crime storytelling — exploring what make a series to must-watch television, what tips it into sensationalism, and why that distinction matters more than ever. And as the genre continues to grow, the session will delve into who really holds the power — the storytellers, the networks, or the audience?
