He Lost His Show Because Trump “Can’t Take a Joke”

As The Late Show nears its end, Stephen Colbert continues making good trouble. Wednesday’s penultimate episode featured Bruce Springsteen performing “Streets of Minneapolis,” the protest song he released in response to the deaths of Renée Good and Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE.

“I am here in support tonight for Stephen, because you are the first guy in America who lost his show because we got a president who can’t take a joke,” Springsteen said prior to the performance. “And because Larry and David Ellison [the owners of CBS parent company, Paramount] feel they need to kiss his ass to get what they want. Stephen, these are small-minded people. They got no idea what the freedoms of this beautiful country are supposed to be about.”

On Tuesday night, Colbert joined David Byrne for a cathartic performance of Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House.” The final episode of The Late Show airs on Thursday; as of now, the guest lineup remains a mystery.
