Bette Midler Admits She’s Had “Some Tailoring” Done to Her Face

Bette Midler has her tailor to thank for her ageless appearance.

The actor joked about undergoing cosmetic procedures during her acceptance speech at the Costume Designers Guild Awards on Monday night, per Page Six. While accepting the Distinguished Collaborator Award for her decades of support of the costume design industry, Midler joked, “Time has a way of smoothing everything out I’ve been at it for close to 60 years…and I do look fabulous, I know.” As the crowd cheered, she added, “I’ve had some tailoring done on my face.” While the Hocus Pocus star has never publicly confirmed she’s had any work done, back in 2008, she admitted during an interview with Extra that she was certainly open to the idea of plastic surgery. She asked, “Doesn’t everybody consider it? When it really starts to cave in, I probably will start to give it a real good think.” But Midler says that it helps that she’s also “really good about my regime. I am really disciplined. I don’t keep strange hours and I don’t drink a lot and I don’t smoke.”

In the past, the Distinguished Collaborator Award has gone to stars such as Shonda Rhimes, Adam McKay, Ryan Murphy, Meryl Streep, Quentin Tarantino, and Guillermo del Toro. Midler was honored on Monday night along with Angela Bassett who received the Spotlight Award, Deborah L. Scott who was honored with the Career Achievement Award, and costume designer Rachael M. Stanley who was given the Distinguished Service Award. When she was announced as the recipient at the beginning of February, the actor said in a statement, “In my very long career, I have been blessed to work with some of the greatest costume designers ever in the worlds of stage and film. It’s been a wild ride, and I am delighted that they have chosen me as their honoree this year; I truly owe them everything. I look forward to thanking each and every one of them; geniuses all.”

Terry Gordon, the president of the guild, added, “This is such an exciting awards year for us at the Guild. Not only are we celebrating our milestone 25th CDGA, but we’re also honoring an extraordinary group of talented women, a group that now includes the luminous Bette Midler. All of our illustrious honorees are leaders, amazing collaborators, glass-ceiling breakers and proven icons in their art and craft. We are proud to stand beside them to celebrate their achievements, and we look forward to celebrating an amazing gathering of talent!”
