Best New Books January 2023: Top New Books Releases

There’s nothing like the joy of getting stuck into one of the best new books, especially at the dawn of a fresh new year. Over the past few weeks, we’ve thoroughly embarrassed ourselves at a variety of festive/New Year parties, eaten our body weight in cheese and binge-watched every box set on Netflix – so taking a more wholesome approach to January is very welcome.

The good news? With the onset of 2023 comes a whole host of new books on the literary scene that we cannot wait to tell you about. Whether you are a serious bookworm or a trepidatious reader, the below list has something to offer everyone, to kickstart your new year in the very best way. After all, we’re firm believers that there is no greater immersive and calming experience than the feeling of losing yourself entirely to a great book.

If you have lived in a cave with no access to the outside world, you may have missed the fact that there has been some tumult surrounding the Royal family in the last few years, and January sees the publication of Prince Harry’s memoir – provocatively titled Spare. With the Netflix documentary feeding the news for weeks, many will be pouring over his every word to see what really happened behind the scenes.

Elsewhere, looking at the role of the press and gossip columns fictionally we have Becky, a novel set in 90’s London following a young ruthless journalist who will do anything to break a scandal – while new Danielle Steel is always a moment, and the inexhaustible writing legend is back with another title that will delight her many millions of fans. For fantasy and dark academia lovers, January is going to be a great start to the year with Hell Bent, a highly anticipated sequel to Ninth House released. If you are looking for powerful historical fiction to blow you away, look no further than River Sing Me Home, the story of a newly emancipated slave looking for her children.
