The trailer for Derry Girls season 3 is here and we’re feeling ALL the emotions

In the meantime, Derry Girls seasons one and two are currently available to watch on All 4.

What’s the storyline for Derry Girls season 3?

We don’t yet know much about the storyline for season three of the series, set during the Northern Irish Troubles – aside from a shift in the political landscape: Lisa has previously said the show will have moved to “peacetime.”

Drawing from her own childhood experiences, the show’s creator added: “that was interesting for all sorts of reasons because it was so different.

“And then there was real fear I think because we started to realise what there was to lose.”

She also chatted about a potential romance storyline between James and Erin (played by Saoirse-Monica Jackson) explaining how she “always thought James liked her” but is yet to come to that understanding.

Ooh, pass the tissues, please…

What has the cast said about Derry Girls season 3?

Nicola opened up in an interview with Radio Times about the season’s emotional ending, which had her in floods apparently.

“It’s really magical. I cried and cried and cried when I finished reading the scripts. Because, you know, it’s our last one.

She added: “It’s bittersweet, but I think we’re sending it off in style.”

As for juicy details, like what will happen with the will-they-or-won’t-they romance developing between Erin and “wee English fella” James”, Nicola remained tight-lipped.

“I don’t think I can say much about specific things like about James and Erin, but I think there’s no way people are going to be disappointed,” she said.

Discussing the delay in filming due to the pandemic, Siobhan McSweeney, who plays Sister Michael in the show, has previously spoken about a “scheduling nightmare.”
