The secret behind Lily Collins’s major voluminous hairstyle might be a £1.99 accessory

Lily Collins‘s latest hairstyle could have easily been made with a Bumpit – you know, that tiara-like hair accessory from those early 2010s TV commercials that promised to give your hair some serious height? The Emily in Paris star showed off her voluminous crown in a three-part Instagram carousel on January 4.

Per the actor’s Instagram caption, “Emily on Ellen! See ya soon…,” Collins wore the look to an appearance on The Ellen Show. Collins’s go-to hairstylist, Gregory Russell, took her hair to new heights for the afternoon talk show. Russell also shared some photos of the look on Instagram but didn’t share any of the details regarding Collins’s look.

We may not know anything about Russell’s creative process behind the actor’s talk show hairstyle, but one thing we know for certain is the fact that Collins’s heightened crown looks like it could have been given the Bumpit treatment. We highly doubt Russell relied on a literal Bumpit to achieve this back-heavy volume, of course, but it would be all the more hilarious if we saw a sudden uptick in celebrities reaching for them a decade later…

Even though Collins’s hair is giving all the 2010s vibes à la the Bumpit, it also pays homage to the 1960s. A coiffed, voluminous crown was one of the hallmarks of ’60s hair. In fact, Zendaya’s crown was also recently taken to serious heights for the cover of Interview Magazine, which debuted in December of 2021.
