Ariana Grande will star in the film adaption of Wicked, and fans think she predicted the role 10 years ago

Ariana Grande will star alongside Cynthia Erivo in Universal’s adaption of award-winning musical ‘Wicked’, with Ari set to play Glinda The Good Witch and Cynthia cast as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.

The two celebrated on Instagram, with Ariana sending her co-star a bunch of green and pink flowers (the signature colours of Glinad and Elphaba): “Dear Cynthia, honored doesn’t even begin to cover it. I cannot wait to hug you. See you in Oz,” she wrote on the attached note.

But eagle-eyed fans actually think Ari predicted the role a whole 10 years ago, in a tweet from 2011.

Twitter account Ariana World HQ – run by Ari fans – spotted the tweet that read: “Loved seeing Wicked again… amazing production! Made me realize again how badly I want 2 play Glinda at some point in my life! #DreamRole,” she said.

Fans understandably went into a bit of a meltdown. “crying and screaming”, wrote one Arianator, followed by: “manifest it, i finessed it….i get everything i want cause i attract it”.

“if it’s one thing about YOU…you gon speak something into existence,” said another.

Another fan also quoted Ariana’s own song ‘just like magic’ back to her:

“Just like magic (baby), just like magic (oh, yeah) Middle finger to my thumb and then I snap it Just like magic (yeah), I’m attractive (oh, yeah) I get everything I want ’cause I attract it (oh) just like magic by ariana grande in 2020”.

Wicked is the Wizard of Oz prequel, and is set before Dorothy arrives in Oz and told from the perspective of the witches in the Land of Oz. It premiered on Broadway in 2003 and proved a huge success, with a film adaption being in the pipeline since 2004. Production is set to begin in September 2022 though, so we have a bit of a wait until we see Ariana and Cynthia take the stage to ‘defy gravity’.
