Exclusive Interview with Edwrds

Welcome Edwrds, excited to catch up with you today! To start out, tell us about your history in the music industry.

Hello, and thank you for having me.

Music has always been a passion of mine. However, I decided to commit to creating music full time 3 years ago after getting a little buzz on SoundCloud. I was always hungry to learn, create, and release my work.

I spent many nights just letting the feeling of music take me away in my home studio in New York. As I matured and grew as an artist, “Edwrds” began to finally feel like it meant something. Then a domino effect began to happen. I took a leap of faith and started to perform at small venues and bars across the country which then led me to opening up for other artists.

SXSW and the Mor.Moves Tour are two of my favorite experiences. I learned the importance of communication, networking and having a supportive team around you during this time. It was a true honor of mine to be a part of those tours.

Headlining the release of my Album ‘Loverboy” at the legendary Revolution Bar & Music Hall in March 2020  was truly epic! We had an incredibly talented lineup that night. The energy of the room and love I received was unreal. I have so many great memories from performing and now, how my music translates to the stage is really important to me.

I still have so much more to learn about the industry and music but I’m not stressed. I am so grateful I get to walk the path I choose. I really love making music and it’s amazing when people just hear me out.

So we know you have an exciting new song  coming out, tell us all about it!

Yes!! My new single “LOOK” will be released on May 21st on all streaming platforms, worldwide. The feeling of not being heard or seen motivated me to not hold back and say whatever felt true. I feel like people often are afraid to show others who they truly are and get worried about outside opinions. Where is the joy in that though? Never dim your light for someone else.

“LOOK” is me shouting to the world that I’ll never settle.

What was your production and recording process like for this single?

Creating “LOOK” was really cool. I drew inspiration from “Mercy II” by 99 Neighbors and aimed to bring the same energy and swag. I began with the music, and as I would finish up each section, lyrics would come to me. By writing while producing, I was able to play around with the pocket of the song. Once I finished producing and writing I recorded the vocals. Vocals are one of my favorite parts of the process. Hearing your lyrics sit on the track the way you envisioned them is so fulfilling.  Overall creating “LOOK” was such an enjoyable experience and I can’t wait for you all to hear it in its entirety.

What has been the biggest challenge for you during this past year?

My biggest challenge this past year was staying motivated throughout the pandemic. All the momentum I had been building up to transition into being a full time artist was gone in the blink of an eye. At first I was selfish and angry that something like this could happen at such an important time in my career. Luckily through the many months spent self reflecting and soul searching I found relief. From that relief came a new outlook on the world. I found more love for myself, and lots of experimentation with music. I’m grateful for my challenges. When you’re challenged you can choose to sink or swim. I choose swimming.

Who is your dream artist to collaborate with?

There are so many artists I would love to collaborate with. The beauty in collaborating is that artists get to bring their own energies and ideas to the table to make something unique.

The groups Brockhampton and Ag Club come to mind when I think of the power of creating together. If I had to choose one artist to collaborate with however, I would say Kenny Beats. Kenny just knows how to bring the best out of any artist, no matter the genre.

Thanks for chatting with us Edwrds, best of luck! Tell us where to follow you and catch the new music?
