Grimes Gave Her Baby a “Viking” Haircut But Is “Not Sure This Went Well”

Grimes‘s baby with boyfriend Elon Musk may be just eight months old, but he’s already shaping up to be as much of a risk-taker as his parents.

The pop star shared the results of little X AE A-XII‘s first haircut on her Instagram Stories, showing herself in the middle of crafting a mohawk for her son as he sits in an empty bathtub playing with his toys. “Not sure this haircut went well but he’s Viking now,” Grimes captioned the shot adding a crossed sword emoji. She shared another photo of the final results, blocking out the baby’s face with a bear emoji and writing, “Haircut inspired by the last kingdom on Netflix which is a masterpiece.” The Last Kingdom is a British historical fiction series about Vikings set in 866 B.C. that chronicles the Great Heathen Army’s arrival in Britain.

This isn’t the first time Grimes has proved X is cooler than your average baby. In November, she revealed another of her child-rearing innovations—“Bath rave for babies.” The singer shared some videos on her Instagram Stories showing a darkened room with a tub full of flashing, light-up water toys. “New invention: bath rave for babies,” she wrote over one clip, adding on another, “Water Ravé 4 bebé, a hint of classical in the bg, and he’s trippin!”

And it’s not just his predilection for pint-size partying that makes X so sophisticated well beyond his eight months on Earth. Grimes also previously told the New York Times that he’s got some pretty experimental taste. “I’ve watched Apocalypse Now and stuff with my baby. He’s into radical art,” she explained. “Like, he just actually is, and I don’t think it’s problematic to engage with them on that level.” Musk’s approach to child-rearing, on the other hand, has thus far been much more hands-off. He told the Times in July that “there’s not much I can do” as “babies are just eating and pooping machines.” Eating and pooping machines who don’t even know how to use spoons.
