Michael J. Fox Recalls Watching Back to the Future With Princess Diana at the 1985 Premiere

On Wednesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a mysterious Michael J. Fox admitted something pretty major about the Back to the Future premiere. The actor, famously known for playing Marty McFly in Back to the Future, revealed that at the world premiere back in 1985, he ended up sat next to none other than actual royalty, Princess Diana herself.

Chatting to Fallon about the experience, he revealed, “She was sitting next to me. The lights go down, and the movie starts, and I realize I am one fake yawn and an arm stretch away from being on a date with her, which is hilarious.” He added, “The movie started, and also, I had to go pee, so for the rest of the movie, I’m sitting there, like, dying. I can’t say anything to her, and I can’t walk away from her because I can’t turn my back on her.”

Fox mentioned he had no idea he was going to be seated next to Princess Diana until she actually came and sat down next to him. Unfortunately, he added, “It was just agony. What could have been the greatest night of my life was a nightmare. A pee-holding nightmare.” We cannot even imagine.

When asked about Diana’s thoughts on the film, he told Fallon, “She seemed to laugh a couple of times. She wasn’t ebullient.” So, it could be worse, right?
