Conjuring Writers Tackle The LaLaurie Mansion

We always see carbon copies of big studio movies come out, especially from The Asylum but never in recent memory have two major horror entities tackled a similar subject like this.

The writers of The Conjuring, Chad and Carey Hayes, are going to be working on a franchise – yes I said franchise – surrounding the haunted mansion from American Horror Story: Coven, The LaLaurie Mansion in New Orleans.

For those unfamiliar with one of the most haunted houses in the world, here is a little backstory.

Madame LaLaurie was a New Orleans Creole socialite and serial killer who tortured and murdered slaves in her household. April 10, 1834, when rescuers responded to a fire at her Royal Street mansion. They discovered bound slaves in her attic who showed evidence of cruel, violent abuse over a long period. LaLaurie’s house was subsequently destroyed by an outraged mob of New Orleans citizens. She escaped to France with her family.

This is where things get weird.

Even though the house was burned by the mob, it was rebuilt where it stands today, one of the most haunted structures in the world.

“We love writing films in which we get to tell true stories – incorporating moments that people can look up and discover did in fact happen. With the LaLaurie House, we get to do exactly that… there is a wealth of documentation of a very dark and frightening past of true events. Not to mention that after spending some time there, what we personally experienced was truly unnerving. We haven’t been this excited about a project since the Conjuring!”, said the Hayes brothers about the new franchise.

Filming begins in 2020.
