Austin Butler’s ‘Caught Stealing’ Release Date Set After ‘Insidious’ Pushed

Sony Pictures on Wednesday said that it is pushing back the release date of its latest Insidious movie a year to August 2026, and in its place dating the Darren Aronofsky-directed Caught Stealing starring Austin Butler.

The Sony/Blumhouse Insidious pic, to be released by Screen Gems, is the sixth entry in the horror franchise and comes in the wake of 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door, which marked franchise star Patrick Wilson’s feature directorial debut and grossed $198 million worldwide. The new installment will now be released August 21, 2026 after having been set to hit theaters on August 29 of this year

Instead, that 2025 date is now being taken by Caught Stealing, which was adapted by Charlie Huston from his book series and centers on Hank Thompson (Butler), a burned-out former baseball player who’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ‘90s New York City. Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Matt King and Bad Bunny also star.

Caught Stealing is currently the only title on that release date.

Sony also said this evening that it has unset a June 27, 2025 release date for an untitled Sony-Marvel movie.
