Momma Soar Into New ‘Blue Sky’

After teasing fans in October with the new song “Ohio All the Time,” Brooklyn-by-way-of-California rock outfit Momma has revealed details for their fourth album, Welcome to My Blue Sky, which will be out April 4 through Polyvinyl/Lucky Number. The next single, “I Want You (Fever),” is among the handful of tunes premiered on stage last year and is out today (Jan. 29), in tandem with a Jaxon Whittington-helmed video.

“Fever” is sure to get the blood pumping, as it chronicles what was once a secret romance that has boiled over to the point that now “everybody knows” what, and who, is going down. “Locked and loaded / I’m your bullet / Pull the trigger / Don’t be shy / Let her down, it’ll feel good / I’m right on it / Just be honest,” sings vocalist/guitarist Allegra Weingarten as the band rocks out.

Momma’s members say “Fever” is “a song we wrote about wanting to be with someone who has a girlfriend, or someone who isn’t over their ex. It’s pining after someone, but there’s also some confidence knowing that that person wants to be with you. The second we wrote that song we felt like we were entering a new era. We scrapped everything we had written for the album up to that point because it felt so fresh and so exciting.”

The group, which is comprised of Weingarten, ocalist/guitarist Etta Friedman, drummer Preston Fulks and bassist/producer Aron Kobayashi Ritch, will support the follow-up to 2022’s acclaimed Household Name by playing some of their largest shows to date. Touring begins April 25 in Columbus, Oh., and will run through mid-June appearances at the Outbreak festival in London and Manchester, England. Brennan Wedl, On Being an Angel and Wishy will support. See the itinerary below.

“When we started writing new music, we were very much like, how do we step into a new era but also like feel like the same band?,” Weingarten previously told SPIN. “It took us a really long time to get there. We wrote 20 songs in total and 10 songs before it even felt like we were getting on the right track. It feels like a more realized Momma. It’s a little more simplified, I think. If one song is the same chords all the way throughout, it’s still okay, as long as it sounds good and it’s catchy.”
