EXCLUSIVE: Invisible Boys, Stan’s emotion-driven drama about the facets of gay sexuality that are often overlooked, now has a release sate and a trailer.
The series will launch on the Australian streamer on February 13, starring emerging Australian talent Joseph Zada (East of Eden), Aydan Calafiore (The Voice 2018), Zach Blampied (New Gold Mountain) and Joe Klocek (Territory), alongside Pia Miranda (Windcatcher) and David Lyons (Truth Be Told).
Show is set against the backdrop of Australia’s 2017 same-sex plebiscite and based on Holden Sheppard’s novel of the shame name. It explores how a group of gay teenagers in the remote coastal town of Geraldton, Western Australia, face challenges after one of them is outed on social media following an encounter with an older man. Forming a close bond of support, they expire desires and identities in a world that has often rendered them invisible.
Cast also includes Shareena Clanton (Wentworth), Myles Pollard (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Elaine Crombie (Top of the Lake), Hayley McElhinney (How to Please a Woman, Doctor Doctor), Steve Le Marquand (Population 11) and Khan Chittenden (Underbelly), alongside new talent such as Mercy Cornwall, Jamie Ward, Joanna Tu, Olivia Nardini, Jade Baynes, Luke Jai McIntosh, James Edward Bingham and James Rock.
Invisible Boys comes from creator-director Nicholas Verso (Crazy Fun Park, Boys in the Trees) and is written by a team including Enoch Mailangi, Allan Clarke, novel writer Sheppard and Declan Greene, Artistic Director of Griffin Theatre. Verso produces through his Asphodel Films label along with Tania Chambers for Feisty Dame Productions. Stan’s Cailah Scobie and Donna Chang are exec producers.
Major production investment came from Screen Australia in association with Stan. Screenwest, Lotterywest, and the WA Regional Screen Fund provided finance and Banijay Rights is on international sales.
