Donald Trump’s 2025 Inauguration in the Cold Heart of a Nation

Photographer Sinna Nasseri is no stranger to covering history. Most recently, she chronicled the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, as well as the blockbuster events like the Emmys, the World Series, and most recently, the 2025 inauguration for Vanity Fair.

The inauguration was held indoors in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda due to an unusually cold 10-degree forecast, limiting both attendees and press. Many of Donald Trump’s supporters arrived at the Capitol hoping to catch a glimpse of the new president from the National Mall but were unexpectedly relocated to the Capitol One Arena. With only 20,000 seats available, many found themselves without a place to sit.

Nasseri stood shoulder to shoulder with Trump’s loyal, jovial, and bundled-up supporters, who watched—on their cell phones and from beer halls—the president swear to “preserve, protect, and defend” the Constitution. After the weather-sheltered ceremony, Nasseri took to the streets of Washington, D.C., capturing a diverse array of figures, from a group of Proud Boys to the National Guard to MAGA supporters, as they took over the Capitol City Monday—and for the next four years.
