It happened again today. Having schlepped home late last night after a big event, I leapt out of bed with five minutes to spare before I had to head to the office. Pulling on a knit set (my go-to for when I literally have 30 seconds to get ready and need to be warm), I threw my trusty chocolate-brown faux fur coat over my shoulders and ran out the door.
On the tube, two women stopped me to ask me where my coat was from. It’s not my first encounter. In fact, it happens at least once a day every time I wear the coat. Then, as I stepped into the office, several colleagues cooed over the coat, too distracted by it to notice my dishevelled state.
Such is the magic of this coat that I’ve owned for three years, and I’m here to spill its secrets. Oh, and it’s currently on sale for under £150.
The Jakke Bailey faux fur coat has served me well and is still in pristine condition. I first fell in love with it and looked to purchase my usual size, but when they didn’t have it in stock, I tried on the next size up and actually loved the oversized mob-wife fit of it even more. The faux fur collar and buttery-soft vegan leather made me feel like I was being cocooned in a robe made of marshmallow.
The statement shape makes me feel like I’ve walked out of an old Hollywood film set, which is probably why it’s a style so beloved by celebrities from Kendall Jenner to Hailey Bieber who’ve been snapped wearing similarly delicious coats by brands like Charlotte Simone and Saks Potts.
It immediately dresses up any old T-shirt-and-jeans look but is formal enough to be worn over a cocktail dress in the evening. It’s guaranteed to be one of the hardest-working items in your closet, promise.

Sustainability is a big concern when it comes to fur and faux fur. While no brand is perfect, I was glad to see Jakke’s strong commitment to cruelty-free, environmentally-friendly production, be it through their transparent supply chain or strict policy to use suppliers free of any animal-derived products.
Ultimately, the most sustainable option is to not buy new at all, and if you do, to love and cherish the piece for as long as possible. Three years later, it’s still one my most worn and complimented coats and I will not be parting with it, ever—not even if someone on the street offers to pay me to take it off my back (true story)!
