Bloober Team certainly appear to have been had fun planting their Easter Eggs with the Silent Hill 2 remake. Per PC Gamer, YouTuber Shiba has made note of secret messages found in the static from several televisions found throughout the game.
As explained by Shiba, the cafeteria television in Brookehaven Hospital holds a message that’s broadcast using Morse code. While it’s difficult to discern from the overall static, if players listen closely, there’s a distinct clicking noise that mimics the sound of a telegraph. The message is a loop of “AGAIN AND”, which if you’ve been lurking around the Silent Hill Reddit after the game’s launch, you’ve probably happened upon the Easter Egg involving the Polaroids found throughout the game that propose the theory that the Silent Hill 2 remake is actually part of a time loop, which this new discovery appears to support. It can also refer to the fact that this is a remake of Silent Hill 2.
That’s not the only message to be found in the television static. In another video, Shiba notes the TVs found in the Woodside Apartments, the observation room of Brookhaven Hospital and Room 106 at Jack’s Inn hold another message. This message, “WHY DID YOU DO IT JAMES”, is a reference to the game’s ending, which…well, that would be spoiling it. But really though, if you’ve played the original Silent Hill 2, you know what it means already.
Bloober Team is hoping that all of this work (and obvious love of the original) pays off in a few weeks at The Game Awards 2024, where Silent Hill 2 is up for five categories in Best Narrative, Best Action/Adventure, Best Performance, Best Audio Design, and Best Score and Music.
