Malachi Gagnon Isn’t Just Here to “Stay,” He’s Impacting Lives

Gagnon is a pro at sharply crafted songs from the perspective of a teenage love. From “Think About Me” to “Stay,” the young artist has found his stride in the folk genre with no plans to slow down. With this twelfth release under his belt, the country-pop turned folk artist has accumulated over 5 million streams on Spotify, with “Stay” only furthering this achievement.

Seventeen year old Malachi Gagnon is living proof that even seniors in high school can make it in the music industry. Between balancing his schoolwork and spending time with family, Gagnon makes time to foster his budding career as an artist, and loves every second of it.

Gagnon knows he’s young, but knows he has much to offer. “I’m only seventeen so there isn’t much that people can learn from me, I love making/writing/sharing my music more than anything! I truly have a passion for this and letting people know the ‘why’ behind my career choice is really cool. I feel like my music is able to reach people and help them feel less alone or feel understood through difficult times such as relationships and feelings of depression/worthlessness.”

A New Hampshire native, Gagnon discovered his love for music at an early age, stating, “When I was 12 I sang out loud in front of my family for the first time at an impromptu living room talent show.” Since then, Malachi has combined his talent with his faith, often singing on the worship team at his church. When not drawing his inspiration from the church, Gagnon looks to artists like fellow Northerner Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan. His production style and instrumentals are very folk/americana inspired.

Malachi’s most recent work centers around heartfelt lyrics and personal storytelling, as seen in his most recent single “Reason to Live”.

Malachi’s new single, entitled “Stay”, is a bit of a pivot from “Reason to Live”. “Stay” is Malachi’s take on a right person, wrong time romance. Between the vulnerable chorus and crescendoing instrumentals, “Stay” is nothing short of heart wrenching, an honest experience of what it feels like to miss out on a happy ending.

“I wrote [Stay] while reflecting on some fond memories that were starting to feel too distant, I wanted to try to express that pining in a song, and ‘Stay’ is the product of that.” Pining is the exact feeling and emblem on the project, “Stay.”
