Before Joaquin Phoenix reprised his role as The Joker in the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 film that won Phoenix and Oscar, many other actors had portrayed the ultimate Batman villain, also known as the Clown Prince of Crime.
Heath Ledger was the only other actor to win an Oscar after portraying the antihero in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008), and it was a posthumous win for Best Supporting Actor. Phoenix’s trophy was for Best Actor. Jack Nicholson, Cesar Romero and Jared Leto include more famous faces who have played the character.
