Over the past year, we’ve seen Kylie adopt a more and more low-key approach to her makeup, which Kylie addressed herself in an interview with Hommegirls earlier in the year. “[Motherhood has] made me love myself more,” she told the publication. “I see my features in my daughter and my son now, but you know, my daughter looks like me. I get to see my beauty in her, and it’s made me love myself more for sure. Beauty is always changing for me,” she added. “I think less is more. I’ve really gotten down my full look, it’s still the same look but way less. I’m just embracing my natural beauty, my freckles, and my bushy brows.”
The reality show magnate has had a mixed relationship with her appearance, having spoken before about her confidence and her insecurities. “I think a big misconception about me is that I’ve had so much surgery on my face and that I was some insecure person, and I really wasn’t. Yeah, I love full lips and wanted full lips, but growing up I was always the most confident person in the room. I was the girl performing for everyone. I had my one lip insecurity thing, so I got lip filler, and it was the best thing I’ve ever done. I don’t regret it. But I always thought I was cute,” she said.
Kylie also raised the subject on a trailer for The Kardashians – where she was seen proclaiming “all of us just need to have a bigger conversation about the beauty standards that we’re setting,” – which received praise. But, once the show aired some viewers noted their disappointment that Kylie didn’t take the conversation further or recognise the impact of her own influence over beauty standards. “I think I just see so many young girls on the internet now, like, fully editing [their pics],” Kylie said in the episode. “Like the editing and the edits. I went through that stage too, and I feel like I’m in a better place, but other people can instil insecurities in you,” she said on the show.
Perhaps this new minimalism era marks a new relationship between the star and her makeup, too.
